Spirit & Truth Oneonta Church History
The winter of 1992 marked the humble beginnings of Spirit and Truth Christian Assembly. Pastor Spring moved to the Oneonta area to fulfill the call that God had laid on his heart to start a church. It all started in the living room of Mitch and Rose Spring’s home. Since the first meeting, God’s blessing and anointing has been on this church. There were five people in attendance for the first service, four of which were Mitch’s family. The Springs renovated a small building on their property that soon became the first building in which Spirit and Truth would meet. After a few years of teaching Bible Studies and reaching out to people, the church grew to about thirty people. The church soon out grew the small church building. Several years later, the old Town Hall in West Oneonta was placed on the real estate market. With faith in God to supply the need, Spirit and Truth purchased the building and land associated with it. The Spirit of God moved mightily at the new location and souls were added to the church. Spirit and Truth has always emphasized a relationship with God, not going through religious rituals. Biblical based powerful preaching and anointed worship have been cornerstones at Spirit & Truth. In a matter of a few years, the church outgrew the old Town Hall building on Country Club Rd. and plans began for building a new sanctuary on that property. After a two-year building project the doors of the beautiful new facility were opened. The blessing of the Lord were upon the church, and God added many precious people to the congregation. In 2005, the FCC granted Spirit and Truth a license for a low power FM radio station. WJIH-lp 95.9 FM began broadcasting the message of hope to the community. The preaching on the radio along with the inspirational music has impacted many lives. We are grateful to God for this radio ministry. In the spring of 2010, the basement renovations were completed. The church now has spacious Sunday school rooms, a nursery and large fellowship hall. The old Town Hall (which was the former home of the church) is now being transformed into a youth center that will bear the name of Shaine Lymn, a beloved church member that went home to be with the Lord. On August 28, 2010, the Shaine Lymn Memorial Youth Center was dedicated and opened. The Center is a place for youth to play video games, ping-pong, pool, or simply hang out with friends at the café.
